Dear editor,

I want to congratulate the Comox Valley for the excellent health-care system I have discovered here. I moved to the Valley three years ago from Victoria (where I grew up), and was able to secure (for the first time in 10 years) a personal general practitioner. I was absolutely ‘over the moon’ about this fortuitous event, and, after three years with the same doctor, I couldn’t be happier.

My doctor is so very much into getting me the best and fastest medical treatment ever, that I feel as if I had fallen into ‘Medical Heaven.’ In fact, she is so interested in my well-being and continued good health, sometimes, I feel the need

to politely refuse certain tests she proposes.

The new, efficient and fabulous hospital is the best. The staff are beyond amazing: kind, polite and very considerate. How people who patiently work so hard to keep both their patients and their medical contemporaries so happy is a joyful mystery to me—they are lovely.

The specialists I have seen are knowledgeable, proficient and caring. My wait to see them has been minimal, and I feel like I receive royal treatment every time I have occasion to attend at their offices.

You may think from my enthusiasm that I’m either in the medical profession, or a person who has lots of friends and acquaintances in the Comox Valley to support me.

I am a senior, and I am neither in (or ever have been) in the medical profession, and I have no friends in the medical profession who live in the Comox Valley. What I have experienced to compare is utter disgust with the dismal excuse for medical care in other Canadian cities.

I feel so very lucky to have chosen to live in this beautiful Valley— when my friends from other parts of Canada visit, it’s hard to stop going into transports of joy about the Comox Valley’s wonderful medical system and the extraordinary people who provide the care within it.

Cheryl Curtis,

Courtenay
