Passed away on Monday, January 17, 2005 at St. Joseph’s Hospital. William is survived by his loving wife of 63 years Vera; his son Don Beck, Courtenay; daughters Beverley Beck, Ottawa and Connie McKnight (David), Chilliwack; grandchildren Katie Britton, Christopher McKnight, Michael Britton and Angela Benson; great grandchildren Kaitlyn and Mathew Benson’s G.G., Marcedes, Ryan Britton and Emma Britton, and numerous nieces and nephews.

William served as a stoker in the Royal Canadian Navy from 1940-1945. He worked as a lineman with Ontario Hydro for over 30 years. He enjoyed fishing, boating, gardening, reading and loved listening to music. “The old man of the sea” loved to take people fishing and watching children catching fish gave him great joy. He was a kind, gentle, patient friend. He loved people and was loved by many. He will live forever in our hearts. Friends are invited to join his family in a Celebration of Life at the King Coho, 1250 Wally Road, Comox, on Saturday, January 29, 2005 at 1:00 p.m. and an open house to follow at Wendy & Jim’s, 3053 Barford Crescent, Courtenay. COMOX VALLEY FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORIUM, 1101 RYAN ROAD, entrusted with arrangements. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to YANA, P.O. Box 3159, Courtenay, B.C. V9N 5N4 or to the Canadian Cancer Society, 102 - 1509 Cliffe Avenue, Courtenay, B.C. V9N 2K6 with appreciation.
