May 17, 1927 - November 1, 2023

In loving memory ~

Victoria Elderkin finished her long journey in this life on November 1, 2023.

Her journey began on May 17 1927 with a home birth in rural Ormiston Saskatchewan to John and Casandra Mustatia of Romanian heritage.

At the age of 6, she and her siblings Peter and Annie entered an orphanage in Regina where she lived until she was adopted at age 8 into the Halliday family of Weekes, Saskatchewan. She worked hard on the farm as she grew up, and as a young

woman moved to Clemenceau to work on the Rielly farm. There she met and married Herbert Rielly and moved to Dellabough. They had 6 children: Lorne, Ricky, Bernice, a girl who died in infancy, Merle and Glen. She raised those children through thin times on the farm and then as a single parent in Clemenceau and Hudson Bay, Saskatchewan.

She sought out and reconnected with her birth family as an adult.

In her 50s Vicki moved to Black Creek and married Lawernce Elderkin. Their life together included building and harvesting their garden, travelling in the motor home, and fishing and square dancing with friends.

When Vicki found herself on her own again she moved to the Saratoga Mobile Home Park, where she spent many hours tending the flowers and vegetables in her garden, canning produce, baking for friends, sewing quilts for family and charities, and knitting countless dishcloths. She was very involved with the Old Age Pensioners Club at Halbe Hall where she organized the food for many events and contributed to the craft sales. In 2009 she was honored as a "Life Member", a tribute to her service. Most recently she was a regular at the Wednesday evening whist nights.

Vicki moved to Comox Valley Seniors Village in July 2023. In the last few months she faced mounting health challenges with tenacity and courage right till the end. Her life is a story of diligent hard work, resilience, and appreciating her friends.

A gathering was held at Halbe Hall in Black Creek to reminisce and honor her memory on Tuesday November 21.
