1919-2002

Born in England, September 5, 1919 and died at St. Joseph’s Hospital, June 7, 2002.

Vera has been a long time resident of the Comox Valley. Predeceased by her husband Robert Strussi, December 1998, parent Mary Ellen and Richard Wilson and sister Mary Ellen Weir. She will be sadly missed by her children Robert McMullen of Victoria, Donna (Larry) Trach of Edmonton, Sharon (Dave) Duncan of Abbotsford, Rosalind (Ralph) of Parksville, Ron (Arlene) Strussi of Royston, sister Lillian Mattison of Nova Scotia, brothers-in-law Renato (Dorothey) of Cumberland and Nick (Mary) of Courtenay. As well as 13 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Vera was a very loving & devoted mother and a great friend. She taught swimming for 18 years and loved to crochet and bowl. Her favourite spot was to sit by the ocean and view the mountains.

It was Vera’s wish to be cremated with a small service for family and friends. Service to be held at 1:00 p.m., June 15, at the Cumberland Cemetery with a tea to follow at the Cumberland Legion at 3:00 p.m.

Special thanks go to Dr. Tancon and the 2nd & 3rd floor nurses at St. Joseph’s. In lieu of flowers donations to the heart and kidney or cancer foundation would be great appreciated.

Angels saw you getting tired when a cure was not be

So they closed their wings

around you and whispered

“come with me”

You did not deserve what

you went through

and so they gave you rest.

Their garden must be beauitful

for they only take the best.

In time we saw you sinking

we watched you fade away.

Our hearts were clearly aching

you fought so hard to stay.

But when we saw you sleeping

so peacefully from pain

We could not wish you back,

to suffer that again.

It broke our hearts

to lose you,

but you never went alone,

For part of us went with you,

the day God called you home.
