Tom passed away peacefully at Cumberland Lodge with his loving family by his side. He was predeceased by his parents John and Janet, 1 brother and 2 sisters and by his loving wife of 69 years Beatrice in 1994 and 1 daughter Grace Witt in 1987. Tom will be sadly missed by his devoted daughter Lois Milburn (Gus) of Cumberland; and son-in-law Lou Witt of Lake Cowichan; 5 grandchildren: Lois, Janice (Scott), Cindy (Jason), Rae (Glen), Marla (Bobby); 9 great grandchildren: Kevin, Christine, Kristal, Amie, Kyle, Scott, Teryn, Olivia; and 2 great-great grandchildren: Kache and Clark.

Tom was born in Blantyre, Scotland and came to Canada as an infant. He lived and worked in Nanaimo where he met Beatrice, they married in 1924. Settling in Cumberland in 1936 where he worked most of his life as a coal miner. Tom had a full and active life playing the game of soccer, coaching the children, fishing, riding his bike and boating to his cabin on Comox Lake. He always appreciated the many visits from his friends and neighbors. Sincere thanks to Dr. Tancon and staff and everyone at Cumberland Lodge for their extraordinary care.

Tom often said the best thing he ever did in his life was move to Cumberland. There will be a Celebration of Life Service on Saturday, May 8th from 1-4 pm upstairs of the Cumberland Cultural Centre. In lieu of flowers, donations made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Cumberland Lodge Garden Project would be appreciated. Arrangements have been entrusted to Piercy’s - Mt. Washington Funeral Home.
