In loving memory ~

- Grif -

It is with extreme sadness that we announce Grif's passing after his battle with cancer. Grif was born as the first child to his parents, William and Geraldine, in 1952 in Grand Falls, Newfoundland.

Grif was a Cobbler by trade, attending shoe repair school in Vancouver in 1976 and 1977. He had shops in Quesnel, Port Hardy, Comox, and lastly in Courtenay, BC, which he shut down permanently in 2022.

Grif served as a volunteer fireman in both Comox and Cumberland.

He was predeceased by his father, Bill, in 2007. Grif is survived by his wife Dale and stepson Scotty; daughter Brandi (Corey), sons Eli and Peter, and their mother Brenda; his mother Geraldine; siblings Garry (Louise), Sheila (Bill), Joann, John, Billy (Anne), Peggy, and Colleen; and many nieces and nephews and extended family.

He is also survived by many, many friends. He was loved by so many people.

Grif remarked on the gentleness of the ambulance attendants who transported him from his home to the hospital just two days before his passing - we thank you for your care and kindness. Thank you also to Dr. Langhans, the staff at the Cancer Lodge in Victoria, the volunteer drivers with Wheels for Wellness, and the nurses and caregivers on floor 3A of the Comox Valley Hospital - we will remain forever grateful to you for the compassion you showed to Grif and to our family.

A celebration of Grif's life will be held at a later date. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at

If you wish, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society/Wheels for Wellness.
