Magnuson - Sven Tiliander “Sven” of Comox passed away peacefully, at home with his family at his bedside, on Sunday, March 31, 2002, age 95.
Sven was predeceased by his first wife Olga, his stepdaughter Eileen Leger, stepson Walter Backstrom and his grandson Dale Leger. Survived by his loving wife Edna and his stepdaughter Alvera (Paul) Dubois of Comox and by his grandchildren: Cindy (Carlo) Cordi, Michelle Backstrom, Rick Leger, Tanya Leger, Rhonda Dubois, Jason Dubois and Jennifer Dubois and by five great-grandchildren. Also survived by his son-in-law Bob Leger and his daughter-in-law Lee Easton, and by numerous nieces and nephews in Sweden.
Sven was born in Vislanda, Sweden in 1906; emigrated to Canada in 1929 settling in the Wetaskiwin area of Alberta.
He worked throughout the province during the depression doing farm work, logging and cutting rail ties while working the land on his own homestead. He served and was wounded in the Italian Campaign of WW2. On release he returned to Alberta, building grain elevators until moving to Vancouver in 1953, where he worked in construction until retirement. He moved to Comox in 1993 with Edna, his wife of 23 years.

A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, April 5th at 2:00 PM from the Chapel of COMOX VALLEY FUNERAL HOME and CREMATION SERVICES, 1101 Ryan Road, Courtenay followed by a reception in the “Garden Room” of the Funeral Home. Private Interment in the family plot in Courtenay Civic Cemetery.
