In loving memory ~

Steve Rowe, passed away peacefully at home in Comox on January 21, 2025, at the age of 83. Born in Queensville, Ontario, on July 10, 1941. Later moving to Toronto, Saskatoon, Powell River, and finally retiring to Comox. Steve lived a life filled with service, adventure, and camaraderie.

Steve's professional life was varied, working first for the Canadian National Railway until leaving to join the Canadian Army. After the Army, Steve moved to Saskatchewan to work on the installation of the direct dial telephone exchanges. Steve also worked a variety of other technical jobs in Saskatchewan, including working for the Saskatchewan Dental Plan, major appliance repair, and running the Linear Accelerator at the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon.

From there he retrained as an Instrument Technician at the Saskatchewan Technical Institute, eventually working as a Journeyman Instrument Technician in a variety of Mines in Saskatchewan. In 1989 he moved to British Columbia with his family to start work at the Powell River Mill as a troubleshooter and special projects instrument mechanic. After he left the mill he founded Powell River Instrumentation, where he ran the Powell River Oxygen Plant for Praxair until he retired.

Steve embraced his interests with enthusiasm. He was a member of the Canadian Race Communications Association and rose to become Chief Course Marshal at Mosport Race Track in Ontario, as well as becoming extensively involved in the Road Rally community in Saskatchewan.

Steve's adventurous spirit shone through in his love of the outdoors. As a young man, he achieved the prestigious Queen Scout award, attended a World Scouting Jamboree, and earned every possible outdoor scouting badge. He continued his love of the outdoors through horseback riding, including being lead scout on the Canadian Centennial Ride. Later in life he explored the open road on his motorcycle, embarking on numerous trips across the United States and Canada.

Steve dedicated many years to serving his community. He joined the Army Reserve as a Cadet officer in 1992 and retired as Captain in July 2006. For 27 years, he shared his expertise and passion as an Army Cadet Rifle Coach. His commitment to range extended into his civilian life, where he served as a Range Safety Officer at the Courtenay and District Fish and Game Club for 11 years. His 55-year membership in the Royal Canadian Legion reflected his deep commitment to fellow veterans. He was also a regular member of the local "Old Boys" group at Tim's for over 20 years, a place where he forged friendships and shared stories with his fellow regulars.

The Rowe family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Jennifer Lyall for her exceptional care and support over the years.

Steve was predeceased by his dear sister Ann. Steve is survived by his loving wife, Ruby; his son, Cameron; daughter-in-law Sandi; and grandchildren Malcolm and Alexandra. As well as a wide circle of extended family, friends, former cadets, and community members who will deeply miss his warmth, humour, and endless stories.
