Stephen Garnet
March 17, 1949 - December 20, 2004
It is with a heavy heart we announce the sudden passing of a very special man. Stephen passed away suddenly at home on December 20, 2004.
Predeceased by his father, Solomon Garnet and his mother, Elaine Read; Stephen is survived by his loving partner, Vicki McCoy, stepdad Fred Read, and son Sol Amos (Nancy) of Toronto, as well as Jake, Jessie and Leia (Randy). He is also survived by his brother David (Linda) and nephews Matthew (Christine), Chris (Shana) and Andrew, all of Toronto.
After graduating from McMaster University, Stephen began a career in social work and rehabilitation programs. He was employed at Seneca College and the Canadian Mental Health Association in Ontario before settling on the West Coast where he was a clinical supervisor/senior counselor at the Port Alberni Drug & Alcohol Counselling Services. For the past several years Stephen worked with North Island College as an instructor in the Human Services Program at both Port Alberni and Courtenay campuses.
Stephen loved the outdoors, specifically camping, trail hiking and cycling. He had a love of music (especially the Blues) and doted on the multitude of dogs and cats that shared his life.
He was passionate about social issues and had a strong sense of social justice, committed in his own way to making a difference. Stephen touched the lives of many people and will be remembered for having room enough in his heart for us all.
