Haydon - Stanley Walter, of Courtenay, BC passed away peacefully at St. Joseph’s Hospital surrounded by his children on Thursday, July 22, 2004 in his 92 year.
Stan was predeceased by his wife, Joyce (nee: Baulcomb) in 1972, and by his brothers: Percy, Arthur, Robert, Charles and Edward, and sister May. He is survived by and will be lovingly remembered by his sons: Dennis (Brenda) and Keith (Marlene) and by his daughter Beth (Steve) Dunlop. He will also be fondly remembered by his grandchildren: Aura, Sean, Brooke, Nicole, Shannon, Joshua, and Nathan, by his godson Stanley Haydon (Betty Lou), special friends Jan and Edwin Grieve, and numerous nieces and nephews. Stan was anticipating the arrival of his first great-grandchild later in July.
Stan immigrated to Canada from his birthplace of Norwich England in 1929 and after spending his working life in Ontario, followed his children to the Comox Valley in 1978. Stan was a kind and gentle soul, with a wry sense of humour, whose loves in life included his family, his church, singing, flowers, model trains and his hobbies. One of his greatest pleasures was his role as ‘Stan the Doorman’ for the Sunday morning services at the Courtenay Fellowship Baptist Church who will miss his warm smile and welcoming handshake.
A Celebration of Stan’s life was held at the Courtenay Fellowship Baptist Church on Monday, July 26, 2004. A private family interment will follow at a later date. For those who wish, donations in Stan’s name may be made to the Courtenay Fellowship Baptist Church or to the Canadian Cancer Society Daffodil Fund.
