Edwards, Stanley James
1917 - 2003
Passed away January 23rd, 2003 at the age of 85. Stan is survived by one sister, Virginia Roberts and brother-in-law James Roberts of Marysville, Washington, and a nephew, Frederick Chantler of Enderby, B.C.
A resident of the Comox Valley since the 1940’s, Stan moved to Courtenay with his wife Margaret after serving in the Royal Canadian Navy during World War 2. After employment as a carpenter he worked in Eaton’s Courtenay store until his retirement in 1983.
Stan’s great hobby was woodcarving and cabinetmaking and the Church of St. John the Divine has many examples of his work including the altar, processional cross, credence table, pascal candle stand and carved names on pews. The Courtenay museum contains his large size carving of the Canadian dime with the famous sailing vessel the Bluenose depicted.
Thanks are extended to the many excellent caregivers during Stan’s long period of ill health including Dr. Silcox, Home Care, Plas Melica Adult Care Facility, Glacier View Lodge, and St. Joseph’s General Hospital Extended Care Unit.
A Memorial Service will be held in the Church of St. John the Divine, 579 Fifth Street on Tuesday, February 18 at 2:00 PM. COMOX VALLEY FUNERAL HOME and CREMATION SERVICES, 1101 RYAN ROAD, entrusted with arrangements.
