Patterson, Ruth Buchanan (nee: Milburn)
June 25, 1920 - Feb. 24, 2005
Ruth was born in Cold Creek (Fernie, BC) and after a lengthy illness with Alzheimer’s passed away at St. Joseph’s Hospital Extended Care on February 24, 2005. Ruth served in the Royal Canadian Air Force during World War II. After discharge, she worked in Vancouver at the Marine Building for the B.C. Forest Service. Upon retirement, Ruth enjoyed fishing and camping with her husband Jim and good friends Lyle and Wanda Vix at Kitty Coleman. Ruth also enjoyed watching her many sports and in her younger years was a “top notch” athlete. Jim and Ruth retired to Cumberland in 1979 from Richmond, BC and have resided in Courtenay since 1993. Ruth is survived by her husband Jim of 50 years, her daughter Gail (John) Stewart of Kamloops, her son Jimmie (Sylvia) of Chilliwack, 6 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren along with her sister-in-law and brother-in-law Jacqueline and Joe Franceschini and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff at the Cumberland Intermediate Centre and St. Joseph’s Extended Care for their wonderful care given to Ruth during her illness. Special thanks to Jacqueline and Joe Franceschini for their support. Cremation. There will be no service upon request. Donations, if you wish, can be made in Ruth’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Society. Private cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Piercy’s - Mt. Washington Funeral Home and Crematorium.
