November 28, 1952 - June 27, 2024

Roy Charles Armstrong, born November 28, 1952, passed away peacefully at home on June 27, 2024, with his beloved wife Karen (n茅e Kroshewsky) by his side. Roy and Karen were married on February 12, 1977. They remained in love and inseparable until his last day.

Predeceased by his parents, Willard and Verna Armstrong; Roy is survived by his sons, Keith Armstrong of Courtenay, BC, and Jason (Lori) Armstrong of Calgary; and his cherished grandchildren, Gavin, Ainsley, and Jillian. He is also survived by his brother Brad (Gayle) Armstrong of Calgary, his sister-in-law Connie (Bryan) Treen, and his nieces and nephews, Chad (Andrea), Jennifer (Jessie), Susan (Hiep), David, and Mary (BJ).

Roy graduated from Ross Shepherd High School in Edmonton before joining the Royal Bank in 1972, where he enjoyed a nearly 40-year career, retiring on January 31, 2009. Roy loved people and was the consummate banker. Gregarious and always eager to start a conversation, he made new connections effortlessly. In those days, working for the bank meant frequent moves, so the family lived throughout Alberta. Roy was always up for the challenge and grateful for the lifelong acquaintances and friendships he made along the way.

In retirement, he and Karen spent several years travelling more, spending time in Florida with family, and enjoying being new grandparents. The promise of a longer golf season and mild winters on Vancouver Island encouraged a move to Courtenay, BC, which also allowed them to spend more time with Karen's sister and family. In 2018, they returned to Alberta, settling in Airdrie to be closer to their grandchildren.

Roy was a loving husband, father, and doting grandfather. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends, whose lives he touched with his warmth and kindness. He spent his last two years battling cancer, but he fought courageously and never lost his sense of humour. A special thanks to the many doctors and staff at Tom Baker Cancer Centre for their efforts, the Canadian Red Cross, Concierge Care Calgary, and the Airdrie Home Care team for their care and compassion. These are all very special people, and the family is eternally grateful for all that they did for Roy.

A private family service will be held to honour Roy's life.
