In Loving Memory ~
It is with deep sorrow we announce the passing of our kind, gentle dad, Raymond Lindsay, on November 9th, 2024 at the age of 88 years. After ten years apart, he rejoins his wife, Annamae Lindsay, for eternity.
Ray's greatest joy and legacy is his family. He is survived by his three children - Leigh (Joan), Les (Jocelyn), and RaeAnn; four grandchildren, Caitlin, Ben, Chris (Laura), and Abby; one great grandson, Cillian; brother-in law, Cyril (Betty) and numerous nieces and nephews.
Ray was predeceased by his wife, Annamae, his parents Irene and Leigh Lindsay, as well as all his siblings, Denis, Audrey, Clare, and Shirley. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Ray was born in Togo, Saskatchewan, the youngest of five children. He fondly shared stories about his childhood - his horses, pets, sibling shenanigans and greatly appreciated his upbringing.
In 1955, he left Togo and began a life-long career with The Royal Bank of Canada. Ray met Annamae in Nipigon, ON and they married on August 16, 1958. He worked in many small towns his first two decades with the Royal Bank. Nipigon, ON, Roblin, MB, Steinbach, MB, Minnedosa, MB, Flin Flon, MB, Ponteix, SK, Regina, SK, and finally, Saskatoon, SK where he stayed for the longest period, retiring in 1992, after nearly 40 years with RBC.
Ray and Annamae spent many winter holidays in Maui during the 80's and 90's, sharing lots of fun and memories with many close friends. In 1992 when their first grandchild was born, their winters and retirement turned to the West Coast, dividing their time between Comox and Vancouver where their grandchildren resided, until permanently moving to Comox in 2001. Family was everything to our parents, and Ray continued to be as close to all his family, right until the end.
Ray was a people person, loving great conversation and interesting stories with clients and friends, always keen to know more about others. His hobbies included curling, golfing, fitness, and he was an avid reader for most of his life.
He was an active member of the Kiwanis Club for nearly 30 years. He volunteered his time, sitting on many boards, including the Saskatoon Chamber of Commerce, and was treasurer for many organizations while residing in Saskatoon. Once in Comox, our parents continued their volunteerism, Ray volunteering with the CV Prostate Support Group, St. Joseph's Hospital 3rd floor, Comox United Church, and their resident strata.
However, it was their children and grandchildren at the center of their worlds. We built so many extraordinary moments and memories as a family and are eternally grateful for each and every one.
Ray strongly believed in honesty, integrity, kindness, and compassion, living his values every day, his actions always upheld by his solid character. He was selfless, a gentle man, and gentleman. We are all better humans for knowing and loving him. May he rest in peace.
The family are grateful to the Berwick, Comox Valley where dad spent his last seven years, meeting many special friends, especially Lily, who shared many happy times with Ray and his family following the pandemic lockdown.
We thank the Comox Valley Hospital for their excellent and professional care of Ray over his stay this summer, and the Comox Valley Senior's Village staff for their care over these final months, particularly Laura, Kelsey, Colleen, Julie, Flora, Melissa, Imelda, Julien, Emmanuel and Akua.
A celebration of life will be held in Spring 2025. In lieu of flowers, the family would gratefully accept donations be made to the Comox Valley Healthcare Foundation Senior Campaign in Ray's name.
