Holst-Larsen, Ragnvald
Apr 22, 1929 - Mar 31, 2006
Ron was born in Oslo, Norway the fourth son of Alfhild and Ragnvald Sr. As a young boy Ron bravely skied messages for the Norwegian Resistance during WWII. In his late teens Ragnvald left his homeland by becoming a Merchant Marine and traveled around the world deciding to make his home on Vancouver Island. Working as a bartender in Victoria for a while, then moving on to Duncan where he married and settled for a while, logging with his father-in-law. He moved his family to Denman Island in 1962 and raised Christmas trees, milled timber and eventually grew oysters. After leaving Denman Island he moved to the Comox Valley and ended up in Merville where he became “flower grower extraordinaire”. His passion for flowers and his love of dancing filled his later years earning him the name “Twinkle Toes”. Ron will be remembered for his sparkling blue eyes and his generous loving smile. Ron is predeceased by his wife Lila, mother and father as well as three brothers. He is survived by: his children Greg and Karen, grandchildren Adam and Jesika, as well as his younger brother Ove and many nieces and nephews in Norway and by too many friends to name them all. Special thanks to Dr. Howard, nurses Sandy, Rhonda and Trudy from Home Support, without your help we couldn’t have kept Dad at home. A Service of Remembrance will be held on Thursday April 13, 2006 at 2:00pm in the Chapel of Piercy’s – Mt. Washington Funeral Home, 440 England Avenue, Courtenay.
