It is with much sadness and love that we announce the peaceful passing of R. Ivor Dunham of Fanny Bay on November 11, 2023, at the age of 95. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 72 years, Jean Dunham (nee Broomfield); his three children, Jackie (Michael), Andrew (Cheryl), and Shirley (Todd); his five grandchildren, Gregory (Kelbree), Sharon (Jared), Michael (Rachel), Claire, and Garet; and his five great-grandchildren, Shae, Franny, Ivor, Felix, and Hudson. He is predeceased by his mother, Ivy and his grandson, Phil. Born in Bourne End, Buckinghamshire, in 1928, Ivor studied and graduated as a mechanical engineer. Early in his career, he worked at a tube fitting company, which would foreshadow his future forays into hose and fittings. In 1949, he met Jean Broomfield, a young comptometer operator, and a 74-year bond was created. Ivor and Jean were married on March 10, 1951. A few years after marrying and after starting a family of their own, both Ivor and Jean decided to immigrate to Canada in the hopes of better opportunities. Upon the family's arrival in 1957, and with his previous experience in tube fittings, Ivor was able to find work selling hydraulics at Dietrich Collins. During his time there, Ivor recognized the opportunity to become his own boss and, in 1967, established Green Line Sales Ltd. in Vancouver, BC. Ivor was also an active member of the community. In the same year that Green Line was established, Ivor would found the Richmond Cricket Club in cooperation with the City of Richmond. After retiring, Ivor and Jean found themselves in Fanny Bay on Vancouver Island. In his later years, Ivor enjoyed a wide variety of activities and continued to remain an active member of his new community. He was a founding member of the Comox Cricket Club and continued to play up until the age of 74. He also helped to form the Fanny Bay Cops community watch program as second in command and was a member of the Ships Point Fire Department. He enjoyed hobbies such as gardening in his greenhouse, travelling in his motorhome with Jean, photography, and birdwatching. He enjoyed daily walks with his dogs and making home movies with his video camera and computer鈥攎ostly of his growing brood of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. So much of our Dunham family identity here in Canada can be owed to Ivor and Jean and their decision to take a chance all those years ago. At the age of 95, he has been such an integral part of our family tapestry that there was a time when it felt like he might be around forever. He will be so greatly missed. We are very grateful for the compassionate care and kindness provided by the staff at Qualicum Manor in Qualicum Beach, British Columbia.
