In Loving Memory ~

It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved Patience "Pay/Pat" Bumsted (nee Wood) who left us on October 11, 2023, at the age of 85 in Courtenay, BC. She will be greatly missed and remembered with much love by her family and friends in Canada and the United States.

Born October 22, 1937, and raised in Middleboro, Massachusetts, Patience was the daughter of the late Lorenzo and Mary (Stetson) Wood.

Pay graduated from Middleboro High School and Tufts University - Boston School of Occupational Therapy. She moved with her family to Canada in 1965 and eventually settled in North Vancouver with her partner and best friend Tom. Here she worked for the North Vancouver School District as an Educational Assistant until they both retired and moved to the Comox Valley in 2001.

Anyone who met Pat quickly realized she always had a positive outlook on life, and she saw the beauty in everyone and everything around her. She admired the beauty of the Comox Valley and enjoyed her many nature walks in the area. A favourite location was the Airpark Trail in Courtenay where she took time to chat with everyone along the way.

She also looked forward to her weekly Brazilian Embroidery "stitching" groups and loved her visits to the local coffee shops where she was known for her "no fun" mochas. Pat and Tom enjoyed many camping adventures, especially in the more remote areas, travelling throughout British Columbia and the Western United States.

Pat, predeceased by her son Jonathan and brother Lorenzo; is survived by her loving husband Tom Northcott; children Mary, and Carla (Kyle); grandchildren Lyndsey, Jeremy (Rui), Thomas, Oliver, and Joenna; her great-grandchildren Lorne, and Sophia; and her brother-in-law Frank and many friends and relatives from her hometown of Middleboro. Although Pat lived a full life, she left us far too soon.

A celebration of her life will be planned at a later date.

Memorial donations can be made in her memory to MARS Wildlife Rescue Centre, Merville, BC. https://marswildliferescue.com.
