Hayward (nee: Houston)
Nell (Nellie) Elizabeth
1908 - 2006
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our devoted mother. She went in peace on Friday, March 10th, 2006 with family at her side. Nellie was born in Fort Langley, BC. She is predeceased by her loving husband of 70 years, George (Ed) Edward Hayward of Qualicum, and daughter-in-law Heather Hayward. Lovingly missed by son N.E. (Bud) Hayward, daughters Beverly Shields (Roy) of Courtenay, and Linda Larson (Allen) of Campbell River. Eight grandchildren Carolyn Taylor (Briss), Janice Harris (Ron), Dana Everett, Dawn Radu (Jed), Bill Shields, Sandra Beasley (Alic), Tonia Gagne (Marcel) and Sharon Russell (Mike), and also 12 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren. Ed and Nell’s married life began in Qualicum, then moving to Bowser and Oyster River before settling in Merville in August of 1942. Many good times and fond memories were formed in the community raising their children. In early 1964, the couple moved to Courtenay where they retired and devoted their love to their family, caring neighbors and friends, they were always welcomed by a great smile, cup of tea and a cookie from Nellie. Mom had many interests, but her family was her greatest joy. Mom will be missed but never forgotten. Thank you to the nurses, caretakers, Chaplain Brian Ducedre and volunteers of St. Joseph’s Eagleview E.C.U. for your special care and humour towards Nellie. Many thanks to Dr. Reggler. A Celebration of Life will be held at Piercy’s ~ Mt. Washington Funeral Home, 440 England Avenue, Courtenay on Thursday, March 16th, 2006 at 1:30 pm.
