Baikie, Myra Cliffe
Dec 15, 1908 - Mar 11, 2005
Passed away peacefully in Campbell River Hospital on March 11th. Myra was born December 15, 1908 in Comox, the daughter of Myra & Joe Thomson. Myra is part of the history of the Comox Valley, being a granddaughter of Florence Cliffe (nee: Harmston) who came to the Island in 1862. Florence & Sam Cliffe were the first couple to be married in the Comox Valley. Myra’s grandparents operated the historic Lorne Hotel where Myra and her mother were born.
Myra resided in Campbell River since 1955 when her husband Wallace and his brothers Jack & Harper moved their logging enterprise to the Campbell River area. Myra was predeceased by her husband Wallace in 1987 after 57 years of marriage and a brother Joe Thomson in 1990. She has two sisters Dode Shaw of Comox and Nancy Brown of Parksville.
Myra also leaves a large family, her daughter Myrna Boulding (Brian) of Campbell river, Joanne Campbell (David) of Comox and Bruce Baikie (Patricia) of Campbell River. There are eleven grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
The home of Myra & Wallace Baikie was open to many friends and family and Myra was well-known as a gracious hostess. Besides her family, Myra enjoyed many contacts with her association in the Eastern Star and Daughters of the Nile. The family wish to extend their thanks to the staff and nurses at Sunshine Lodge and to Dr. Arnold & Joanne Keane for the excellent care she received over the past year.
The family would also like to thank the caregivers and homemakers who looked after her in her own home: Dee, Fran, Shirley, Denise, Gerrie, Gail, Gerry, Susie and Anne. A special thanks to her long-time friend Gilbert Montagnon.
In lieu of flowers a donation to the Sunshine Lodge in Campbell River would be appreciated.
Service to be held at C.R. United church at 2:00 pm. Wednesday, March 16, 2005. Sutton’s Campbell River Funeral Home entrusted with arrangements.
