Muriel Mary Preece passed away on June 2nd, 2004 at St. Joseph’s Hospital at the age of 91.
She is survived by daughters: Nerys (Sam) Haqq of Richmond, Jane (Jim) Minaker of Comox, Catherine Preece of Comox, sons: Harry Preece of Courtenay and Meiric (Kathy) Preece of Ladner, 12 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
Predeceased by husband WHJ (Jack) Preece, brother Harry Lloyd Jones, son John Preece, and granddaughter Susan Minaker.
Muriel was born in Caernarvon, North Wales in 1913. In her late teens and early 20’s she was involved with helping run Charities and was a Cub Scout Leader. She met her husband Jack in 1937 when he arrived to visit relatives and married him 3 weeks later. She moved to Victoria, B.C. with Jack and daughter Nerys was born there in 1938. When war was declared in 1939, Muriel went back to North Wales to work in her father’s surveying practice, while her husband served in The Canadian Army in Britain. The next two children John (1940) & Jane (1946) were born in North Wales. Returning to Canada in 1948 they moved to the Comox Valley, where her final 3 children were born, Harry (1949), Meiric (1954) and Catherine (1955), at the farm on Dove Creek Road. For the next 10 years she raised the children and ran the farm. The family then moved to Elm Avenue in Comox and Muriel went to be a cook at St. Joseph’s Hospital retiring in 1978. She then helped daughter Catherine run the Riding School on Lazo Road.
She will be remembered as a gracious lady, who treated everyone with respect & courtesy, regardless of their station in life. She’ll be fondly remembered by her family and numerous friends.
