In Loving Memory ~
Moya (nee Casey) Fleming passed away on September 17th 2024. She was born on March 10th, 1936 in London, England and grew up in Nottingham.
Moya is predeceased by her parents, Olive Muriel (Allen) Garrett and Patrick John Casey, and her two brothers, John Casey, and her dear Paul, who died as an infant. Moya met and fell in love with her devoted husband, Gerald Fleming, at a dance at RAF Langar, England where she had been working in the administrative office.
Moya is survived by her loving husband of almost 65 years, Gerald, her three daughters Tracy, Lesley (Reta), and Kele (Jessica), and her granddaughter Ceilidh. Moya was also loved by her extended family in Nova Scotia.
Warm thanks to her wonderful friends for their loyal companionship and for a multitude of shared memories of travel and adventures, that included playing "train". A small but mighty woman, Moya approached life with courage and tenacity, always a social butterfly. Her energy levels were fondly compared to the energizer bunny, just ask the "Gazelles"!
Wherever she lived, Moya left the legacy of a beautiful and colourful perennial flower garden. She loved flowers and gardening, and she loved bees. She loved her watercolour painting group, book clubs, sorority, cross-country skiing and travelling the world with Gerald and friends on HF Tours.
Moya was a self made career woman, working in various capacities over her lifetime, retiring after 20 years of working for CIBC in Courtenay and in downtown Victoria. Throughout her long life, Moya was an advocate for anyone who needed support. She volunteered for many years delivering Meals on Wheels to people in need, the Comox Valley Hospital's mammogram program, and Elder College, to name a few.
Moya, Mum, Nana, is always in our hearts and our precious memories, as she joins her loved ones and dear friends waiting for her.
A special thanks for the exemplary care given by Dr. Lissa Benson. Thanks also to the management and care staff at Home Instead, and to VIHA, who provided Moya gentle and respectful care in the last few weeks of her life.
Donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society's Vancouver Island Lodge, or to the BCSPCA.
A celebration of life gathering will be announced at a later date.
