In loving memory ~
Morna leaves behind her husband of 63 years Richard (Dick), sons Gregor (Laurel), Rod (Heatherann), Christopher (Wanda) and Richard. She was a loving Granny to Lachlan, Alexander, Annie, Macgregor, Amelia, Mhari, Fraser and Macy. Mum was also a proud great-grandmother to Margaret, Katherine, and Evelyn. Mum is survived by her brother Michael (Shirley) Malley and sister Catherine (Wayne) Maybee. Mum was predeceased by her parents Bryan and Mabel Malley.
Mum was born in Kitchener, Ontario but always thought of Hudson, Quebec, and Montreal as her childhood home. The quintessential army wife, Mum moved her 'brood' every two or three years as Dad's career took us across Canada, the United States, Germany, and the UK. In 1985, Mum and Dad returned to Vancouver Island where they had started their married life nearly 30 years before.
Ever the Easterner, Mum began her search for the perfect summer cottage for her family. After several summers searching the BC Interior, Mum finally found her piece of paradise on Horsefly Lake. So began for Mum and Dad almost 30 summers at the cottage where the peace and tranquility were punctuated by the annual migration of her sons with their growing families and by countless visits from friends new and old.
Mum's warmth and optimism were infectious. Mum loved nothing better than a house full of people and anyone was welcome for dinner. Never one to take herself too seriously, family and friends all have their favourite Granny/Morna anecdote.
Although the past few years saw Mum battle several health issues, she refused to give in always finding the lighter side. Mum's passing leaves a big hole in our family, but we will remember her with many funny stories when we take her next summer for her final trip to the cottage.
