October 10, 1964 - August 25, 2023

In loving memory ~

It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Michael John MacEdward, a beloved son, brother, uncle, and dedicated veteran of the Royal Canadian Air Force.

Michael passed away in his sleep at his home in Trenton, Ontario, on August 25, 2023, leaving behind a legacy of honour, service, and dedication to family and friends.

Michael, known affectionately as "Mike" to his friends and family, was born in Weyburn, SK, on October 10, 1964. Mike is survived by his loving family, including his dad, John William MacEdward, and John's partner Sandy Hodel (Victoria, BC); his sister Kelly Sawchyn, her husband Sean, and their son Cash (Calgary, AB); and his sister Kathy MacEdward (Saskatoon, SK). He is predeceased by his mother, Georgina May Jones.

Mike graduated in 1982 from City Park Collegiate High School in Saskatoon. He loved teasing his sisters, playing hockey, watching professional baseball, and wearing his favourite sports jerseys. He joined the military a few years after graduation. He demonstrated unwavering commitment and service to his country throughout his 25-year RAF career. He was stationed at air force bases in Calgary, North Bay, Comox, and finally Trenton. He retired in 2012 with the rank of Master Corporal. He saw all of Canada, visiting every RAF base in the country, and many other parts of the world, with his longest tour being in Bosnia in 2002.

Mike was an avid reader whose collection could rival a library's. This is more than mildly amusing to his family, who never saw him crack a book outside of a sports magazine throughout childhood. Mike was devoted to his beloved canine companion, Marley, with whom he shared countless adventures, long walks, and likely a fair amount of pizza and TV time. Marles was more than a pet; she was Mike's faithful confidant and the center of his world.

Thank you to Dawn and Mike, who are providing Marley with her forever home.

In accordance with Mike's wishes, there will be no funeral service. Instead, a private family gathering will be held to celebrate his life, share cherished memories, and comfort one another. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to their favourite animal rescue/SPCA or to the Heart and Stroke Foundation in Mike's memory.

Mike will be deeply missed, and his legacy of love, dedication, and service will live on in the hearts of those who loved him. May he find eternal peace, and may his memory be a source of comfort to family and friends at this difficult time.
