January 21, 1940 - October 30, 2023
In loving memory ~
Stewart Hardy died suddenly on October 30, 2023. He was 83 years old. Stewart was a proud K'贸moks First Nation member with the traditional name "Lageuse". Stewart lived in Comox his whole life and he worked as a commercial fisherman and logger for most of his career. The years spent living and working in the area helped build his knowledge of KFN's Traditional Territory, and he was one of KFN's most prominent knowledge keepers. He shared that wisdom with those he worked with during his years as an elected Band Councillor. He served in that role over a period of fifty years and, together with Barb Mitchell and Ernie Hardy, helped move KFN forward into Treaty Negotiations. Stewart was always happy to share his knowledge and wisdom with anyone willing to take the time to ask questions and listen. In honour of his many years of community service, he was awarded the Queen Elizabeth II's Diamond Jubilee Medal in 2012. He will be greatly missed by his partner, Mary Davis, his sons Richard (Carol) and Anthony, his stepsons Andrew, Alan, and Scott as well as his grandchildren Tianna, Desteni, and Bobby Stewart, and his great-grandchildren Matias and Silas. He will also be greatly missed by his nieces Melinda and Maria and grand-nieces Melissa and Jennifer as well as numerous other family and friends that extend north and south of the Comox Valley. A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, November 18th from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. at the K'贸moks Band gym at 3320 Comox Rd, Courtenay. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in his name to the "K'贸moks First Nation Elders Program" at 3330 Comox Rd, Courtenay, B.C. V9N 3P8.
