Mary Ellen Stuart of Comox, born in Vancouver June 29, 1928, passed away at St. Joseph’s Hospital on November 9th, 2002, at the age of 74. Mom died peacefully in her sleep, with her family in attendance at her bedside, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was predeceased by her parents and eight of her siblings. Mary is survived by her loving husband Grover (married 54 years); her son Wayne (Maryann) Stuart of Nanaimo; her daughters: Teresa (Ken) MacIntosh of Winnipeg, and Diane Stuart (Dirk Trigg) of 150 Mile House; her grandchildren: Michael (Maureen), Shannon, Shaun, Adam, Sabrina, Merissa, and Elysha, and her great-grandson Alexander. She is also survived by her sister Chrissy Volp of Vancouver, numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
Mary and Grover have resided in Comox since 1973. Mary was an active member of the Comox Legion Ladies Auxiliary, and she worked at CFB Comox for ten years. She enjoyed her flowers, pets, holiday visits with her grandchildren, traveling and camping.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Fehlau, Dr. Engman, Chaplain Gordon Carter, and the staff at St. Joseph’s especially Vanessa from the Chemo Unit. We would also like to thank all the Home Support Nurses and workers who took part in Mom’s care, as well as all the staff at the Vancouver Cancer Unit.
A Celebration of Mary’s life will be held on Sunday, November 17th, 2002, at 2:00 p.m. at the Comox Legion, Branch 160, in the Upper Hall.
