April 27, 1945 - March 6, 2025

In loving memory ~

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Mary Catherine Lewis, lovingly known as "Little Mary," at the age of 79. She passed away peacefully on March 6 after a courageous battle with Parkinson's. A longtime resident of the Comox Valley, Mary was born in Vancouver on April 27, 1945, to Stanley and Mary Davie.

She is survived by her husband of 60 years, John Lewis; her children, Johnny (Tyra) Lewis, Robert (Janine) Lewis, and Cathy (Jeff) Whitson; and her sister, Phyliss. Mary's greatest pride was her grandchildren—Paige, Drew, Hope, Colten, Shyanne, Jenna, Rhyan, Camryn, Nolan, and Nicolas who she loved fiercely. She was also blessed with great-grandchildren who brought her immense joy. Many beloved nieces and nephew.

Mary was a force of nature, known for her sharp wit, big heart, and ability to make anyone feel welcome. If you were lucky enough to be part of her circle, you undoubtedly have a "Mary story"—probably one that includes laughter, a bit of mischief, and maybe even a joke on the offside.

She had a special way of making her grandchildren feel like the most important people in the world, always ready with a listening ear, a dance move, or a joke to lift their spirits. She loved a good game of crib or cinch and could often be found at the bingo hall surrounded by friends. While Mary's greatest role was raising her children, she also worked at Leung's and later managed Poster City, where she made a lifelong friend in Tanya, who became like family.

A natural host, Mary's home was always open for a cup of coffee, a chat, or one of her legendary home-cooked meals. Her recipes were often a "pinch of this and lots of garlic and onion," but somehow, they always turned out perfect. Many memories were made in her kitchen, especially during pie-making sessions with the grandkids.

Above all, Mary was proud of the family and friends who surrounded her. She leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and kindness. Proud Mary, you were gentle and kind, with just the right amount of mischief—always ready for a good prank and a smile.

She will be deeply missed

and fondly remembered.

Celebration of Life to be held at the curling club on April 27 from 12-4 p.m. There will be refreshments and food and some of Mary's favorite music.
