1912 ~ 2005


Born May 19, 1912 in Germany and raised in Stegersbach, Austria, the fifth of eight children. Martha immigrated to Red Willow, Alberta, Canada in 1933, where she married her husband, Henry Stamme. They moved to British Columbia in 1934, and settled on what would be the family farm in Merville, British Columbia. Martha lived on the farm for the rest of her life, almost 70 years.

Oma is survived by her two daughters: Ella (Reimer) and Martha (Sig); six grandchildren: Christine (Paul), Natalie (Steven), Martin (Lisa), Carmen (Daryl), Therese (Paul), Sandra (Josh); five great-grandchildren: Benjamin, Amelia, Sam, Abigail and Sage. Oma was predeceased by her husband in 1981, her son Albert in 1959 and her grandson Michael in 1966.

Oma loved to work outside, and took great pride in her independence, garden, family and friends. She remained on the farm till the end, passing March 26, 2005, surrounded by family, on the farm in the home of her daughter, as she wished.

Prayers will be offered from Comox Valley Funeral Home and Crematorium, 1101 Ryan Road on Tuesday, March 29th at 8:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial from Christ The King Roman Catholic Church on Wednesday, March 30th at 9:00 a.m. with Father Paul Murphy, celebrant. Interment will follow at Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens, Cedar.
