Mitchell, Marjorie Gladys
Dec 22, 1915 - Nov 14, 2004
“Glady” passed away peacefully at St. Joseph’s Hospital on November 14th, 2004. She was predeceased by her husband Ronald in March 1995. She will be lovingly remembered and missed by her daughter Dr. Stephanie Mitchell of Edmonton, Alberta and two sons Ronald Howard and David Leslie Mitchell of Comox and Calgary, Alberta respectively. She was a “Forces” homemaker, raising a family through Ron’s assignments at Centralia, camp Borden, Ottawa, No. 1 Fighter Wing - Marville, France and Comox between 1948 and 1980.
“Glady” was well-loved in her community. She was a member of the Comox Golf Club for more than 40 years, playing actively right up to her 87th year. Being unable to play golf during the past 12 months was heartbreak for her. She was active in bridge and bowling, and she made many friends in the Comox Valley, who will all remember her dearly. She loved to make up golf lyrics for songs and would do so for “Ladies Closing Day” at the Golf Club. Her sense of humor and her love for life resulted in a philosophy that carried her right to the end: “You keep moving or you seize up”.
A Memorial Service and Celebration of Gladys’ Life will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, November 20th at PIERCY’S - MT. WASHINGTON FUNERAL HOME, 440 England Ave., Courtenay. Following the service a reception will be held in the Glacier Tea Room at Piercy’s. Donations in lieu of flowers to the Canadian Diabetes Association, the Heart and Stroke Foundation or to St. Joseph’s Hospital Foundation would be appreciated.
“Bring her home, Lord;
she’s ready now.”
