Price, Margaret

July 4, 1931 – May 18, 2006

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our Mother. Mom fought a long, courageous battle with cancer and all the while maintained her independence, dignity and sense of humour. With family at her side, Mom peacefully passed over to her spiritual world where loved ones were waiting. Mom was predeceased by her husband David ‘John’ Price, her mother and father Elsie and Joe Hamer and her only brother Raymond Hamer.

Mom was the second daughter born to Joe and Elsie. She spent many years of her childhood in Fernie, BC. Her father, a coal miner, moved the family to Cumberland in 1947 where Mom graduated from high school. Our Mom was multi-talented. She loved to sing, she loved to dance but most of all she loved to garden. It didn’t matter what time of year it was, Mom would always find something to do in the garden even if it meant making it bigger.

From living in the Comox Valley to Qualicum Bay and then back to the Comox Valley Mom you could say became a Jill-of-all-trades. You might even say she was a self-proclaimed General Contractor having organized and assisted the building of a couple houses. If Mom saw something that needed to be done, she would just do it and she did it well. She did not think twice about picking up a hammer, a shovel, a saw, a paint brush or a screwdriver. When a job needed to be done she knew exactly how she wanted it done and it would be done right.

Besides her family, one of the greatest loves of Mom’s life during the past 6 years was her black lab, Missy. Together they would walk and walk and walk. Mom and Missy loved to walk the local beaches and McDonald Wood Park.

We, Carolyn Taylor (Briss), Janice Hayward (Ron Harris), Shelley Kostiuk (Jason) and Geraldine Barry (Chris) will always remember Mom’s tender touch, her gentle kisses, her wisdom and her words of encouragement. Mom encouraged each of us to follow our dreams. Missing their Grandma are Peter Scott (Brenda), Stewart McQuillan (Clare), Meghan McQuillan, Vincent Barry and Helen Barry. Her great-grandchildren Rayna Harkins (6 years), Juliet McQuillan (8-1/2 months) and Milagros Scott (7 months) will always be reminded of their GiGi by way of photographs and the never ending reminiscent stories of ‘remember when’. Fly high Mom and watch over us!

A Celebration of Life for our Mom was held on Wednesday, May 24 at Piercy’s Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to the SPCA Comox Valley Branch, Box 1284 Comox, BC V9N 7Z8

If tears could build a stairway

And memories a lane,

We’d walk right up to Heaven

And bring you home again.

Love you forever

From your family
