Lucille was born on October 6th near Burns Lake, BC and peacefully went home to her Saviour on July 2nd at Cumberland Lodge, near Courtenay, BC.
After being born under a tree, Lucille’s childhood was spent on the shores of Ootsa Lake. At the age of 18, she moved to Fort St. James where, along with her two younger sisters, she lived in one of the original Hudson’s Bay Trading Post houses. She began working for the Hudson’s Bay Company in the late 1930’s and in 1947, married her husband Dave Blackburn. Lucille continued working at “The Bay” until 1960 when she moved with her family to Prince George. There, she worked as a Dental Assistant with Dr. J. Thorsness until 1979 when she and her husband moved to Vancouver Island. Lucille had many interests including fishing, cross country skiing, curling and travelling. Her love for travel took her to such places as Europe, Cuba, Vanuatu, Australia, New Zealand and Mexico. As well, she enjoyed gardening, cooking, pottery, and most of all, her family which always gave her the greatest joy.
Lucille was predeceased by her brother Ernie Harrison of Fort St. James. She is survived by Dave, her loving husband of 58 years, her only son Dale (Oda) of Campbell River and their children: Graham (Fiancée Ellisha), Matthew, and Meliana. Her older brother, John Harrison of Prince George, and her two sisters Esther Greaves of Quebec City, Irene Wilson of Port Moody, and her sister-in-law Mary Harrison of Fort St. James will also lovingly remember her.
Her family would like to express a heartfelt thank you to all the staff and volunteers at the Cumberland Lodge who faithfully and lovingly cared for Lucille during the past 2 1/2 years.
