Lori Baker

January 26, 2005

Lori Baker (nee: LaBelle)

passed away much too soon on January 26, 2005 in Royal Jubilee Hospital at the age of 61. She is survived by the father of her children, David; her five children: Darlene (Jerry), Dale (Denise), Kris (Melanie), David (Christie) and Nina; her eight grandchildren: Kari, Joshua, Becky, Kyle, Amanda, Deanne, Kimberly and Nolan; six of eleven siblings and many other family and friends.

Lori was best known as the owner/operator of McSwiggin’s Cafe in Courtenay, B.C. Affectionately referred to as “Ma Baker”, Lori touched many lives not just by being a business owner but by way of her magnanimous personality and her supreme generosity.

She was an incredible cook, a beautiful singer and the best mom on this earth. Very few people worked as hard as she did yet she always made time for family gatherings. Lori had a heart of gold and she lived for her kids. She loved cooking, music, bowling and crafts; and she could kick just about anyone’s butt in Scrabble.

Lori Baker will be sadly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, February 12, 2005, 4:00 pm at the Rod and Gun Club at Comox Lake. Because Lori would not have a party without food, you could bring along your favorite appetizer (preferably in a disposable dish) if you so desire. In lieu of flowers, donations in Lori’s memory may be made to the Lori Baker Memorial Bench Fund, c/o McSwiggins Cafe, 2270 Cliffe Ave., Courtenay, B.C. V9N 2L4. (250)338-2966
