In loving memory ~

Lois was born to Lena and Charles Hughes on April 17, 1930, in Vancouver. Lois's family included 2 older siblings, Harry and Mildred. She worked hard at school and got good grades. Reluctantly at the request of a friend, she went to the Cedar Cottage United Young People's Union social gathering. It was here that she met Len at the age of 15. It was on a boat ride back from Belcarra Park that Len stole a kiss. From then on they were an item.

Wedding Bells rang for Lois and Len on June 27, 1952. They bought property on Douglas Road in Burnaby, built a house and lived there for 60 years. Len and Lois were equally matched in many ways but none more than their hard work ethic. This was reflected in one of her motto's "If something is bothering you and you can't sleep.....get up and clean out the fridge" Lois selected a professional career as a Registered Nurse, graduating from VGH in 1952. She was smart and did well in her profession until child-rearing chores took over. Lois enjoyed life. Parties, picnics, games, music and social activities of all kinds were never lacking. Some of the new ventures included square dancing, water ballet, tennis, horseback riding and sailing. Later in life she mastered the piano. In support of Burnaby Divers, she took up typing and bookkeeping.

Lois was always one to maintain social contacts. She remained friends with many nursing graduates. Through the study of Genealogy, she reached out to many branches of her family tree. She was also key in the organization of many John Oliver High School Reunions. When the duties of raising two children eased she returned to nursing and the caring of others, making many new friends. As years went by, the enjoyment of grandchildren and great-grandchildren replaced nursing. Both generations greatly appreciated her always full cookie jar and joyous Turkey dinners. Eventually it was time to say goodbye to Douglas Rd. and the community where she worked and played for so many years. Berwick in Comox and the relaxation it offered was a perfect fit until health needs required the care offered by the staff at Ocean Front Village.

Lois Chambers was a caring mother and a devoted wife. She will be missed and fondly remembered by her husband Leonard, son Steven, daughter Lenore, daughter-in-law Sandra, grandchildren Alena, Matthew, Darren and Timothy and their spouses (Sean, Val, Jordan and Shannon) and great-grandchildren, Ashley, Ciara, Dash, Quinn, Maxwell, Tristan, Ellis, Evelyn and Dante.

A Celebration of Life was held at Piercy's - Mt Washington Funeral Home, on August 23 at 2 p.m.
