1913 - 2002
Passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 7, 2002 at St. Joseph’s Hospital E.C.U. in Comox, B.C.
She is survived by sister Evelyn M. Lewis, Comox, BC; nephew Paul King (Mary Evelyn) Fort Meyers, Florida; grand nephew Paul G. King (Bonnie) California; grand niece Laura E. King, Alabama.
Predeceased by husband Jack Lefcoe 1989, brother Gordon K. King.
Born in Grantham, Ontario, moved to Vancouver, BC 1950. While living in Vancouver, Lillian became involved volunteering at Children’s Hospital and Red Cross Lodge in Shaughnessy.
Moving to the Comox Valley in 1955, to fish the “Tyee Pool” in Comox Bay, Lillian became an ardent “fisher”. She won the Comox King Salmon Club Ladies Trophy so often it was retired in her honour with her last fish, weighing 46 pounds.
The Beaufort Association became her extended family which she called “her children”.
In January 1981, The Lillian Lefcoe Adult Training Centre was opened. This proved to be a great arrangement for both the clients and the community.
Lillian was honoured with Citizen of the Year 1980. Rose of Recognition, by Beta Sigma Phi, Director Comox Valley Assn. for mentally handicapped people for several years, St. Joseph’s Hospital Board member.
The dedication of Lillian’s compassion and generosity, is a legacy for a better quality of life in the Comox Valley for all of us and for years to follow.
