Hawkins, Leonard
June 8, 1920 - May 4, 2006
Len was born in Barry, S.
Wales. He is survived by his wife Mary and their children: Stephen, Jane and Judy; also grandchildren: Theresa, Lindsay and Corey. At 17 Len was an international rugby player, was a gymnast and a swimmer. His wartime experiences included two years in India and Burma, where he succeeded in rescuing a number of young men from the Burmese Jungle. Emigration to Canada in 1952 took him and his little family to Oshawa, Trail, and Victoria. He became well-known in school basketball circles, and was involved in the start of the popularity of kayaking. He was also very active in his church, particularly St. Elizabeth’s in Sidney.
At this time we would like to extend our deepest appreciation to the wonderful, caring staff of Glacier View Lodge in Courtenay. We will never forget your kindness.
A Gravesite Service will be held soon in Brentwood. Comox Valley Funeral Home & Crematorium, 1101 Ryan Road, entrusted with arrangements.
