Leo Vanderkemp
Apr 20, 1942 - Jan 10, 2003
It is with great sadness that the family of Leo Vanderkemp, aged 60, must announce his very sudden and unexpected death on January 10, 2003 at Royal Jubilee Hospital in Victoria.
Leo leaves behind his wife of 39 years, Shirley; 3 children: Rod, Teresa (Mark) and Shauna (George); and 3 grandchildren: Kerry, Malcolm, and Rebecca.
Leo came to Canada from Holland at the age of 10 in 1952. He was very proud to recently receive his official Canadian citizenship. He moved to the Comox Valley with his young family in 1973 and has lived in Merville every since.
He was a long-time, dedicated employee of the Courtenay Safeway for 25 years.
Leo was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed camping, hunting, and fishing. This past summer he caught a record breaking 32-1/2 lb. salmon in the waters off of Bates Beach Boathouse where he was a well-recognized face to all.
He will be missed not only by his immediate family but also by many in-laws, nieces, nephews, and friends.
As per Leo’s request there will be no funeral service.
