Murphy - Lawrence Thomas “Larry” (1919-2002) of Comox (formerly of Ottawa and Nanaimo) passed away peacefully in St. Joseph’s Hospital on Tuesday, May 14, 2002; age 82. Predeceased by his loving wife, Mary (nee: Furlong) and his son James. Survived by his sons: Larry Murphy of White Rock, B.C., Joe (Cathy) Murphy of Dartmouth, N.S., Peter (Sylvia) Murphy of Courtenay, B.C.; his daughters: Doris (Bill) Reilly, Zita Murphy, Debbie Murphy of Ottawa, ON and Mary Murphy of Kingston, ON; his grandchildren: Victor, Cindy, Lynda, Jennifer, Lori, Mary-Emma, Ruari, Jeremy, Erin, and Brodie. Also survived by his brothers: Father James Murphy, S.J., Aubrey (Edna) Murphy, and Barry Murphy; his sister Doris Stanton, and many nieces, nephews, family and friends. Larry was born in Saint John, New Brunswick, married Mary and started their family and moved to Ottawa. He worked for the Dept. of Public Works from which he retired and moved to B.C. West Coast. He served in the Royal Canadian Naval Volunteer Reserve (war time) and for years in the Naval Reserve. Larry enjoyed retirement, camping and fishing and visits with his family, pondering his good fate while smoking his pipe. Thanks to all the staff at St. Joseph’s Hospital. Memorial Mass was held on Saturday, May 18, at 10:00 am from Christ the King Roman Catholic Church, 1599 Tunner Drive, Courtenay with Father Joe Killoran, celebrant. COMOX VALLEY FUNERAL HOME and CREMATION SERVICES, 1101 Ryan Rd, Courtenay entrusted with arrangements.
