In loving memory ~

Lawrence "Bunker" Berg 90 of Black Creek BC died peacefully on February 16, 2024, at Oceanview in Comox. He is survived by daughter Erica (Berg) Grout, son-in-law Matt Grout and his nieces and nephews.

Bunker, as he was known, was born in Courtenay but moved to the prairies as a child. He always remembered how much he loved the coast and knew he would return to the island one day.

He served 9 years in the Princess Patricias Canadian Light Infantry as a paratrooper and radio operator, where he developed many of the skills and attributes that shaped his life. Most important was the sport of skiing. He spent most weekends in the mountains honing his skills and nurturing his competitive side in ski racing.

After serving, he became a ski instructor at Sunshine Village Banff, where there are 2 runs named after him. When he moved back to the island he taught skiing at Forbidden Plateau. As a carpenter, he had a hand in the construction of many of the buildings in the Comox Valley and helped build the first ski lift on Mt Washington.

He was hardworking, generous with his time, and always willing to help and share his knowledge. He will be greatly missed and remembered fondly. No service as per his request.

A special thank you to the staff of Oceanview. The care aids, LPNs and Activity aids went above and beyond to make his time there the best it could be.
