In Loving Memory ~
With much sorrow we announce the passing of Konstantine Maxim Zaharko, affectionately known as Max to all that knew him.
Max passed away peacefully on May 22nd, 2024 at Ocean Front Village in Courtenay at age 97 surrounded by loving family members.
Max was predeceased by his second wife Marjorie (Webber), from Goderich, Ontario, his first wife Jean (Morrison), a wee Scottish lassie from Glasgow, Scotland, his son David, his sister Vera, and brother Daniel.
Born in New Westminster and raised by parents brought to Canada from the Ukraine, Max was brought up in a family where education, hard work, and a devotion to family was valued. In his leisure time Max loved the outdoors and sports. Golf was Max's passion, and he enjoyed playing with friends and family, and managed to shoot his age from 69 right up to 81.
Max loved salmon fishing, which is one of the reasons Max moved the family to Comox with Jean and their young family; he could fish in the morning, work during the day, and golf in the evening.
He was a dedicated pharmacist for 40 years, and owned and operated Comox Pharmacy on Comox Avenue. Max loved his family and cherished his friends. He led a blessed life.
He will be missed, and remembered for his commitment to his profession, great devotion to his clients, volunteering his time, and as a great father, husband, and friend.
Max leaves behind his sister Mary, son Ian (Lynn), daughter Margo, step-children, Leigh, Ward (Maureen) and Brooke, grand-children Sean, Robin, David, Mariah, Ryan, Giselle, Isabella, Rio, Shaun, and Paige, as well as many great grand-children, and nieces and nephews.
Max was kind and gracious and never complained. The family is very grateful for the kind, compassionate, and loving care received from Dr. Itta Winter. Thank you so very much for your attentive dedication.
A heartfelt thank-you to all the kind and supportive staff on the Kingfisher Wing at Ocean Front Village, everyone took such great care of Max this past year. We also wish to thank the wonderful people at Berwick, where Max and Marjorie lived for ten years; all the staff were so kind and thoughtful.
A big thank you as well to all the ER staff, nurses, and doctors, and everyone at the Comox Valley Hospital, that took great care of Max on the occasions he was admitted. You all did a magnificent job.
As per Max's request, there will be no service. Thank you, Max, for all the sacrifices you made, to make our lives so enjoyable. May your days be now filled with many rounds of golf and salmon dinners!
