Hamling, Kay
1922 - 2003
On June 13, with her daughter Marleen at her side, Kay passed away after a 40 year battle with Polycystic liver disease and lung cancer. Kay was born on May 4, 1922 in Gleichen, Alberta to Clyde & Eva Sharpe. After her mother’s death in 1939, Kay joined her sister Esther and brother-in-law Jack Hamling in Courtenay where she met Jack’s brother Joe Hamling. Kay and Joe were married in 1942 and raised their four children in Courtenay. Kay was a long time member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles. Predeceased by husband Joe in 1973, brother Albert in 1997 and son-in-law Greg Robinson in 1991. She is survived by daughters: Marleen Scheutz (Howard), Swift Currant, Sask., Deborah Simpson (Lorne), Paso Robles, California, and sons: Barry Hamlin and Kevin Hamling (Brenda), both of Courtenay. Also missing Kay are sister and best friend Esther Hamling, Courtenay, Mary McDermid, Arrowwood, Alberta and Cora Schaitel, Morris, Sask., and friend and companion of many years Harold Cresswell and Charlyene. Kay is also survived by 14 grandchildren and great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
