Hedwig , “Hedy” Juliana Albrecht
(nee: Wutzke)
Passed away at home on May 2nd, 2004, surrounded by her loving family. She was the eldest of nine children, born on August 11th, 1917 at Merrill, Wisconsin, U.S.A. In the early 1920’s her family moved to a farm near Herbert, SK where she grew up.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 64 years, Reinhold Samuel (Sam) Albrecht, in 2000; and her eldest son Edgar, in 1988; also 1 sister Rose Bear; and 3 brothers: Paul, Emil and William.
Hedy was devoted to her family. Other interests were her church, gardening, and homemaking, as well as hobbies, which included embroidery, knitting and reading. She loved nature and the beauty of Vancouver Island, especially walking on the beach. She spent much of her early married life on farms at Thorsby, AB, and Morden and Langruth, MB. In 1963, Sam and Hedy moved to Portage La Prairie, MB where Hedy worked at the hospital. In 1966 they moved to Comox where Hedy worked at the Fort Seniors Residence for 11 years.
Hedy is survived by 3 sisters: Alma (Henry) Schock, Evelyn (Max) Klotz, and Helen (Harold) Ross, and 1 brother Fred Wutzke, all living in Saskatchewan; as well as by many nieces and nephews.
Hedy was a loving and much-loved mother of 5, grandmother of 9, and great-grandmother of 7. She will be very fondly remembered and missed by her children: daughter-in-law Gurli Albrecht of Calgary, AB, son Al (Lucille) of Comox, daughter Marjorie (Garth) of Comox, son Reg (Liz) of Lac La Biche, AB, and daughter Deb (Glen) of Nanaimo, BC; grandchildren: Alvin and Suzanne Albrecht of Calgary, AB, Neil (Christy) Albrecht of Victoria, BC, Doug (Bev) and Corinne Napper of Winnipeg, MB, Jim (Beth) Albrecht of Grand Prairie, AB, Corrie Albrecht of Comox, Kimberly and Ryan Rasmussen of Nanaimo, BC; and also 7 great-grandchildren.
We’d like to thank Dr. Brailey and Dr. Ostry, the C.V. Hospice, Rev. Gordon Carter, our pastors Marvin Svingen, Alan Pope and Brian Krushell, the nurses and care aides at “Home Care” and “People at Home” for being so kind and helpful in making Hedy’s last days comfortable. A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, May 6th, 2004 at 2:00 P.M. in Piercy’s ~ Mt. Washington Funeral Chapel, Courtenay, BC with Pastor Marvin Svingen officiating. In lieu of flowers, Hedy has asked that donations be made to the building fund at Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church, Co-mox, BC. Arrangements by Piercy’s - Mt. Washington Fun-eral Home and Crematorium.
