Lidgate, Judy Anne
(nee: Shepherd)
Born October 12, 1946, passed away peacefully Sunday, August 17th, 2003 after a hard fought fight with ovarian cancer. Her father William “Bill” Shepherd and her sister Maureen predeceased her. Judy will be sadly missed and remembered with much love always by her husband Don, her daughter Shelby and grandson Austin, daughter Nikki (Rob), her devoted mother Molly Shepherd; plus many caring relatives and close friends.
Born in Comox, Judy was raised in Royston. In 1969, she moved to Victoria where her two daughters were born. Shelby and Nikki were her pride and joy. . . her continual source of inspiration and happiness. Judy worked for many years as a furniture sales person for T.Eaton Co. It was while working at Eaton’s that she met and married the love of her life, her true soulmate, Don.
In 1994, Judy and Don opted for retirement and country living. . . they had visions of owning a hobby farm. They moved to acreage in Fanny Bay and fulfilled their dream. Judy loved living in Fanny Bay and referred to herself as “J from the Bay”. Judy enjoyed a real kinship with animals. Surrounded by farm animals, her beloved dogs and cats, Judy created a warm and inviting home where everyone was welcome. Judy’s life was made complete when her daughter Shelby gave birth to her grandson Austin. To Austin, Judy was simply “Mugas”. Mugas adored her little man.
It is difficult to find words that even remotely describe the essence of Judy. Simply put, Judy was a “Classy Broad”. Judy meant so much to so many people. Being an upbeat positive person, Judy inspired many people over the course of her lifetime. Family and friends were top priority to Judy. She was blessed with much insight into life. Honesty, fairness, trust, understanding and acceptance of others were values that were very dear to Judy. She was wise, caring, compassionate and very empathetic to the needs of others. Judy knew intuitively when something was not quite right, she reached out unselfishly, and knowingly to help in any way she could without having to be asked. Everyone who knew her enjoyed her great sense of humour and infectious smile. The room lit up when Judy walked in. Judy enjoyed many hobbies and a variety of interests. Flower arranging, art, stained glass, crafts, gardening and the outdoors were just a few of the things she liked. Judy loved life.
Judy may not be with us physically anymore, but her spirit will live on forever. She will be forever cherished and will live on eternally in the hearts of the many people who knew and loved her.
Judy requested that there be no funeral service. Those wishing to make a memorial donation in Judy’s name can make a donation to Ronald McDonald House, B.C. Cancer Society or to a charity of their own choice.
