Joy Senft

August 10, 2002

Our lives were forever changed on August 10 at 6:00 a.m. Loving mother and wife, Joy Senft, after 80 years of living life to the fullest passed from this life onto the next. I don’t think there are any words written yet to explain how we are all feeling. Joy was married for 57 years to Bob Senft and more than just a husband, Bob was a companion and Joy’s best friend. Over those many years we admired how obstacles were overcome and how they looked after each other “through sickness and in health until death do they part”. I think those words, when spoken 57 years earlier, were spoken from the heart, and they spoke them with truth and true love for each other.

Murray and Marlene were her “chosen” children. I will always remember her telling us the story of how she and my Dad picked us and how special we were because of that. She made a life for my brother and I that will keep me going through this incredible sorrow we are feeling. Joy had many more people that called her “Mom’ just because she was such a good one. John Booth always used to tell her she was a great Mother-in-law and all those funny stories about mother-in-laws did not apply to her. She loved that John played in a band and always enjoyed hearing about the “gig” and how it went.

All of you that knew Joy and loved her as much as we did will fondly remember her in her kitchen, with her apron on and cooking, surrounded by her dogs, who gave her such comfort. How she loved to cook....not just one pie but probably four and some buns and maybe a cake too, just for my dad, because dad loves cake. She had her happiest and funniest times in her kitchen and if you ever visited Joy you always left the house with cookies or a banana loaf or something she had canned. Her enjoyment came from sharing with others.

My mom taught us the true meaning of the word “strength”. She overcame so many health obstacles with her strength and her will to live on. I only hope I have gained some of her courage as well. If you would like to remember my Mom...please tell someone close to you how much you love them. Joy loved those three little words .. she used them all the time and loved to hear them, it gave her strength ... I Love You.

I know when our time comes and we travel to our next place, Joy will be waiting with the lights on and a turkey in the oven!!

Until we meet again “Mom” you are remembered with so much love. Your loving husband Bob Senft, children Murray Senft., Marlene and John Booth, friends and family too many to mention but all appreciated for helping us through this sorrow and loss.

There will be no service at her request but we are planning a family and friend gathering in September at Kitty Coleman where Mom and Dad spent so many happy times. We will be in touch with those details. Until then, look to the night sky where another star shines true and bright and fills us with “JOY”.

Arrangements entrusted to: COMOX VALLEY FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION SERVICES, 1101 Ryan Road.
