In Loving Memory ~

DUQUETTE, Joseph (Joe) passed away at Victoria General Hospital March 21 at the age of 62.

Predeceased by both parents, Oscar and Natalie, he leaves behind his beloved wife Heather McCullough; son Jackson McEwan, step-daughter Devon Sigurdson; sister Carol; brother Paul; nephews Michael and Dean; niece Karen; and numerous other extended family in Nova Scotia and Quebec.

Originally from Halifax, Nova Scotia, a promising football career was ended early in life due to an accident. Joe embraced life with unwavering resilience and determination and found his path and passion in the culinary arts, achieving the coveted level of Red Seal Chef and polishing his craft at the CIA in New York, going on to compete on the Canadian Culinary team and traveling internationally.

His talent and dedication led him to the film industry where he brought joy to countless individuals on and off the screen, leaving an indelible mark on those he served.

8 years ago Heather introduced him to the work the Earl Naswell Society does at Christmas time for the Earl Naswell Community Christmas Dinner where he jumped in with both feet, eventually taking over as head chef for the event 2 years ago. Even before moving here, he fell in love with this community and knew he'd found his home, moving here in 2018.

Renowned for his infectious sense of humor, Joe had a gift for lighting up any room with his laughter and quick wit. He cherished moments spent with loved ones, especially his wife, Heather, whom he adored beyond measure.

Above his culinary prowess and humour, Joe was known for his appreciation of life's simple pleasures - particularly his fondness for Kokanee and Jamieson and a good round of golf. His zest for life and love for his family were evident in every smile he shared and every dish he prepared.

Joe will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him, but his memory will forever live on in the hearts of those he touched. As we bid farewell to a beloved husband, father, friend, brother and colleague, let us take comfort in the memories we shared and the joy he brought into our lives.

A celebration of Joe's life will be held April 14th 1pm -3pm Upstairs at the Courtenay Legion, 367 Cliffe Ave, Courtenay, BC.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Heart and Stroke Foundation in Joe's honour.
