Veloso, Jose Domingues “Joe”
1930 - 2003
Of Courtenay, passed away at St. Joseph’s Hospital on Thursday, February 6th, 2003, aged 72. He is survived by his former wife, companion and caregiver, Nilda; sons: Eddy, Lito and Cecil; daughter Maria; grandchildren Steven, Amy, Faith, Abby and Carley; sister Flavia; brothers John and Manuel; his nieces and nephews and loyal friend, Fatima. He was predeceased by his infant son Joseph. Joe immigrated to Canada from Portugal in April of 1955, settling in the Cape Breton area of Nova Scotia, later moving west to Kitimat, then finally making his home in the Comox Valley in 1957. He worked for Comox Logging then as a fisherman, and established his own business, Portuguese Joe’s Fish Market in 1965. In his leisure, he loved socializing with his friends, especially hosting them at his home. Prayers were offered from Christ The King Roman Catholic Church on Monday, February 10th, with Mass of Christian Burial celebrated on Tuesday, February 11th by Father Slawomir Sciechowski. Interment followed at Courtenay Civic Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to COMOX VALLEY FUNERAL HOME and CREMATION SERVICES, 1101 RYAN ROAD.
