Johnny passed away peacefully October 6, 2003. He is survived by his loving wife Signhild (Marie) and his children Stephen (Noralee) and Karin (Ed) Valeri and his beloved grandsons, nieces and nephews.
Johnny was born in Horten, Norway, where he received his marine engineer’s certificate. Travelling the world as a merchant marine engineer, He immigrated to Canada in 1950 and married Signhild (Marie), his love of 53 years. He was employed at MacMillan Bloedel on the deep-sea tug for 19 years, then they moved from Vancouver to Vancouver Island in 1972, where he was a marine engineer on B.C. Ferries until his retirement in 1987. Johnny enjoyed many pleasures in life; family gatherings, friends, travelling, fishing and good food! He was known for his quiet nature and always greeted everyone with a smile. Being a very kind, gentle and loving person, he will be sadly missed.
The family wishes to extend many heartfelt thank yous to the staff at Cumberland Lodge for all the kindness and excellent care of Johnny. A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, October 11, 2003 at 1:00 p.m. from the CHAPEL OF PIERCY’S FUNERAL HOME, 440 ENGLAND AVE., COURTENAY, following the service a reception will be held in PIERCY’S GLACIER TEA ROOM. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Johnny’s memory to the Parkinson’s Society Research Center at #600-890 W. Pender St., Vancouver, BC V6C 1J9. PIERCY’S FUNERAL HOME is in care of arrangements.
