Frederick Charles John Rathbun, “Jack” of Comox passed away on Tuesday, February 8, 2005, at
St. Joseph’s General Hospital. He is survived by Claire, his loving wife for 60 years; his son Douglas (Edie) of Belleville, Ontario; his daughter Glenny Whelan (Geoff) of Comox; grandchildren: Dawn (Bob), Alana (Ted), Cheryl (Chris), Kelly (Richard), Christopher; great-grandchildren: Nicole, Kate and Joshua; niece Margaret-Ann; nephew Tom (Marilyn) and niece Cathy (Andy).
His parents Charlie and Mae Rathbun, sister Gladys Thompson and nephew Russell Nelson, all of Saskatchewan, predeceased him.
Jack was very proud to have served 35 years in the RCAF and CAF and was fortunate to have had postings in many locations in Canada and Europe. He especially loved his time spent in Germany and made many International friends. his passion was History and Geography and he greatly enjoyed visiting aviation and other museums to relive the history and retell the stories.
He was a life member and great supporter of the Comox Lion’s Club and the Royal Canadian Legion of Comox. He contributed to the success of many fundraising events and held many offices over a 30-year span. He was honored to be a wreath layer for many years on Remembrance Day. He found much joy and friendship with his involvement in these wonderful organizations.
Jack helped found the Lion’s Club Volunteer Tax Services for Seniors and his talent for facts and figures along with his extensive knowledge and skills helped many people over the last thirty years as he generously volunteered his services throughout the community.
Jack will be greatly missed by his family, many friends, his Eagle Ridge Estate “family” and his special pet, Fanny.
Family and friends are invited to share in honoring and celebrating Jack’s life at Branch 160, Royal Canadian Legion, Comox on Tuesday, February 15th at 2 P.M.
For those wishing, donations in Jack’s memory can be made to the SPCA, the Heart and Stroke Foundation or any charity of your choice.
The family would like to thank the many nurses and doctors for their excellent care and support that Jack received at St. Joseph’s Hospital.
