Ponsford, John “Jack”
1904 ~ 2003
John was the second youngest of nine children, born the 6th of August 1904 in Teverton Devonshire England. At the age of 22 he immigrated to Canada, residing in Silton, Saskatchewan. He joined the Air Force in 1941 to 1945, married Alice Cook of Craven, Saskatchewan in 1942. He farmed in the Lumsden area until retiring in 1971 and moving to White Rock, BC and then to Comox in 2000.
He is survived by his sister-in-law Doris Ponsford and niece Eileen (Richard) Dunn of Devon England, nephew William (Maxine) Ponsford, Stanley (Agnes) Ponsford, nieces Sylvia Ferguson, Doreen (Hugh) Fieldgate, and many more family members both in England and Canada. The family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff at St. Joseph’s Hospital for the loving care they provided to John. A Graveside Service was held on Monday, December 29th, 2003 at Sunnyside Lawn Cemetery in White Rock, BC. Prayers by Benno Friesen. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to PIERCY’S FUNERAL HOME and Crematorium, 440 England Ave., Courtenay.
