McGowan, John
Jan 30, 1933 - Feb 6, 2005
John McGowan passed away peacefully Sunday, February 6, 2005 with loving wife and daughters by his side.
John is survived by his wife Joan and daughters Shawn Wagner (Robert), Colleen McGowan (Mike), Sherrie McGowan, Jane Clarke (Crichy), Jill Jenkins, and Jeff Brandreth. Eight grandchildren: Kristopher, Jacquelyn, Ashley, James, Amanda, Christopher, Jacqueline Anne, Taylor Mary-anne; sister Sally Dickie (Hugh) in Ireland; and many nieces and nephews in Ireland.
John was a quiet, loving, caring, generous, gentle, kind, wonderful man with a great sense of humour. He loved his family above all else and was a wonderful mentor to his children and grandchildren. He took everyone into his life without judgment and was always there for them with patience, understanding and a listening ear. John enjoyed a good game of tennis, badminton, golf and cards. He also liked to hike in the mountains and cross country ski.
John was very proud of his therapy dog “Peaches” who went with him to visit patients at Glacier View Lodge. He also loved his new puppy “Tiger” whom he hoped to train with his friends at Cape Lazo small dogs club.
The family would like to thank Dr. Helmer and Cathy, Dr. Simice for their wonderful care and concern. Also thanks to the girls at St. Joseph’s clinic and ICU, and Kent Roduck and staff at Comox Valley Funeral Home & Crematorium. Special thanks to our wonderful friends Lucille Smith, Kay Dick, Audrey & Udo Grieve, for all their great support at a critical time. Also thanks to our wonderful neighbors Joan & Jonathan Campbell, Jane & Ron Fentiman, Gordon and Penny Davies, Bob & Beryl Edwards who all helped so much when we really needed it.
There will be no service at John’s request. The family gracefully declines flowers. Donations can be made to Heart & Stroke or Schizophrenia Society.
We all loved you John and you will be sadly missed and forever in our hearts.
