John Graham Bowbrick

BOWBRICK — John Graham, died suddenly of a heart attack in Kakamega, Kenya on Monday, December 13, 2004. Born October 7, 1939 in Comox, John grew up at Saratoga Beach and graduated from Tsolum School. Following in the footsteps of his late parents, Jack and Dorothy Bowbrick, John devoted his life to the education of others. John started his teaching career in Comox but spent most of his 40 year career as a teacher and school principal in the West Vancouver School District before retiring to Black Creek in 1996. Even in retirement John remained passionate about education, volunteering up to six months in Africa each year with the Canadian Harambee Education Society (CHES) providing Kenyan girls with the opportunity for a high school education. He touched the lives of countless students, colleagues and friends. He leaves behind his wife, Alinda; his sons, Graeme and Ian; his brothers, Gordon and Arthur; and his grandchildren, Colin, Adam, Alex, Alec, Meredith and Charlotte. In lieu of flowers his family requests donations be made to the Canadian Harambee Education Society (CHES), 446 Kelly Street, New Westminster, V3L 3T9 (604-521-3416). A memorial will be held in the New Year.
