In loving memory ~

It is with great sadness we announce that John Glowasky passed away on August 8, 2024 from complications after hip surgery.

John was born in Saskatchewan in 1933 to Sophie and Steve Glowasky. John was a loving son, husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend.

As a long-time resident of the Valley, his first job was setting pins at the bowling alley and later enjoyed league bowling with his wife, Irene for the White Brothers. His career was in the lumber industry, starting with Inkster Lumber, Community Lumber, Courtenay Lumber and finally Central Builders until he retired at 65. Up until last year he still wore his Early Bird shirts and jacket. John was a very loving, generous man with a great sense of humor. He enjoyed fishing, playing cards, going to the casino with his girls (Betty, who is now deceased), Debbie, Judy, Janine and Sharon, and celebrating many memorable occasions with his family and extended family, the Annands. He volunteered for the Evergreen Seniors, helping with theatre productions (Senior Games) and in the kitchen peeling potatoes and cutting squares. John and his wife Irene along with their best friends, Art and Betty Annand, started picking salal, mushrooms and pine cones. This afforded them to enjoy many wonderful trips. They traveled to Spain, Portugal, England, Russia, Poland, Mexico, Costa Rica and many trips to Reno. Their last trip together was driving across Canada in a van. In his later years he enjoyed visits from the family, watching Blue Jay's baseball, westerns and walking around the neighborhood with his furry companion Daisy, collecting cans. Thanks to all of the generous people for donating their cans, even throwing bags over balconies or delivering them right to his house. John always had a huge smile on his face telling us the stories about his cans. The family wants to give special thanks to all of his wonderful neighbors throughout the years who watched out for him, cut the grass, shoveling snow or just having conversations with him even though he couldn't hear. He was especially grateful for Cathy and Anne for taking wonderful care of Daisy after he had a stroke last year. She has such a loving home now.

John was predeceased by his father Steve, mother Sophie, wife of 61 years Irene and daughter Suzanne. He is survived by his daughter Debbie, son Steve (Wendy and Jason), son-in-law Lawrence Ball, Phillip (Lindsay), Melissa (John), and Matthew (Kelsey) and 7 great grandchildren.

John will be sadly missed by

all who knew and loved him.

A tea for family and friends will be held on Saturday, August 31 at the family home on 16th Street from 1pm-4pm. Stories, laughter and well wishes only as requested by the family.
